Summary
Julian Martin is a waterway engineer and fluvial geomorphologist with over 20 years’ experience specialising in waterway management. Julian has experience in design, modelling, construction and project management and has undertaken a variety of projects in the environmental and engineering fields incorporating geomorphic, hydraulic and hydrologic investigation work. Julian has extensive waterway management experience, involving the integration of geomorphic, vegetation and engineering analysis. Julian’s experience includes projects (e.g. Waterway Action/Management Plans) aimed at identifying the features, values, issues and required management activities for the management of rivers and streams, whilst ensuring that the works are compatible with the morphology of the river.

Julian has an excellent knowledge of the types of river management works employed and constraints on the implementation and success of such works. Julian is also excellent at communicating his technical knowledge to a wide range of stakeholders and the community.

Julian has been involved in numerous geomorphic investigations across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia interpreting river landscapes and evolution, identifying key issues affecting the physical form of the streams and applying a risk-based approach for setting waterway management priorities. Julian has been involved in an extensive number of waterway engineering and design projects that incorporate geomorphic assessments over his career for both Government Authorities and private industry.
